Spiced Orange Hot Chocolate


  • pint milk (or almond milk for a dairy-free version)
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all spice
  • 1 tsp vanilla paste
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 50g of 70% chocolate
  • Pinch sea salt
  • 1 pack of coconut cream – chilled in the fridge overnight
  • Pinch chilli – optional


  1. To make the whipped coconut cream, add the chilled coconut cream to an electric mixer and beat for a few minutes until you get a fluffy consistency.
  2. Add the milk and the spices and orange zest to a medium sized saucepan and bring up to a simmer. Stir in the cacao and chocolate and stir until the chocolate has melted.
  3.  Sprinkle in the salt and chilli flakes if adding.
  4.  Strain the hot chocolate before serving. then top with whipped coconut cream and enjoy!
